Between 2021 and 2022, the City of Cape Town's mass appraisal team embarked on a transformative mentorship collaboration with the City of Philadelphia, focusing on enhancing mass appraisal methodologies. During this mentorship collaboration, the City of Philadelphia shared their innovative approaches to mass appraisal, allowing our team to learn from their experiences and valuable techniques that have since been adapted to our local context. A significant outcome of this collaboration was the beginning of a long-standing partnership and improvement in our processes and methodologies, leading to improved accuracy and fairness in property assessments The presentation will highlight the critical benefits of international collaborations, particularly between developed and developing nations, in the field of mass appraisal. By showcasing our experience, we aim to inspire other jurisdictions and organisations to pursue similar partnerships that foster knowledge exchange and innovation. We will also discuss the challenges encountered during this mentorship and how they were addressed, as well as the tangible improvements made in Cape Town's mass appraisal practices as a result. This presentation seeks to highlight how mentorship and collaboration can serve as powerful tools for advancing mass appraisal methodologies globally, ultimately contributing to more equitable property valuation systems.
