2021 IAAO Annual Legal Seminar

Privacy in the new media age: A culture of intrusion

Presenter Information

Jon Mills Esq.

Start Date

3-12-2021 9:30 AM

End Date

3-12-2021 10:30 AM

Description

Basic values including personal autonomy, freedom, liberty and the ability to be an individual are threatened by modern technology and new media. Sometimes the modern media is a vehicle for freedom as in the recent examples of social revolutions broadcast by “iReporters.” At the same time some parts of the new media can rend and tear lives and reputations apart with all the forethought of a rabid animal. In these attacks there is no conscience, no reason and no noble purpose. These mindless intrusions do not represent the historic role of the press and should not be the ultimate evolution of the principle of free press and free speech.
