General Session Description

At the St. Tammany Parish Assessor’s Office, we’re building a structured workflow to replace the old way we generate market reports. Most of what we’ve called “reports” up to now are really just Excel lists updated by hand or exported from CAMA. They get the job done, but they’re not analytical in any real sense. Our goal is to automate that process using SQL, Python, and R. We pull sales and parcel data directly from our SQL database, clean and organize it in Python, then use R and R Markdown to create full analytical reports that combine tables, charts, and maps in one place. The idea is to move from reporting the news to actually analyzing it. With AI and open-source tools making advanced analytics more accessible, R Studio gives assessors and GIS analysts a practical, low-cost way to modernize valuation workflows. This project shows how even small offices can produce professional, transparent, and repeatable reporting.
