Centralizing Valuations in Australia: Success or Failure?

Gino Mitrione, City of Whittlesea, Australia
Celeste Orange, Westlink

Session Description

Prior to 2018 in Victoria, Australia, 79 local government jurisdictions were individually responsible for the rating and taxing valuations assessed on all properties within their municipality. In 2018 legislation was passed making it the responsibility of valuations within the State of Victoria, the State Government through the Valuer General Victoria. Whilst we are in the relatively early stages on this new model, do the statistics suggest this has been a success or a failure?
