Brief Session Description
The U40 Leadership Lab Innovation Grant Winners presents unique ideas that have had a tangible and positive impact on the processes or procedures in their jurisdiction. From residential to commercial, data collector to office manager, tech-savvy to computer novice, these highly interactive presentations filter the best of U40 applicant ideas and present them in a digestible format to assessment professionals of all levels.
Nolan Derby
His presentation will show an example of a model he developed with appraisal staff at BC Assessment to automatically identify data anomalies (outliers) in bedroom and bathroom counts for Strata Residential properties. He will give a high level, graphical overview of how the model works and its results, and explain how other appraisal organizations can develop and use similar models.
Wade Slivik
His presentation will show how he reinvented the property assessment notice and property tax bill from a simple letter, to a double postcard, potentially reducing local unit expenses. Then utilizing those savings to create a summer college internship program.
Jason Cowan, RES, AAS
His presentation will show how he used google sheets to create a commercial sales database and how to use this to create a “sales comp sheet”. He also has a YouTube video he is working on for “field data collection manual” to cover the basics of the reassessment process.
Heather Poore
Her presentation will go over how she created job descriptions and restructuring how the office worked to make it run more efficient. It will also discuss how she helped improve the workflow between not only her department but other departments in the courthouse.
